SAVE AT THE PUMP!

Pumping gas...good things to know. I've been in petroleum pipeline business for about 31 years, currentlyworking for the Kinder-Morgan Pipeline here in San Jose, CA. We deliverabout 4 million gallons in a 24-hour period from the pipe line; one dayit's diesel, the next day it's jet fuel and gasoline. We have 34 storagetanks here with a total capacity of 16,800,000 gallons. Here are sometricks to help you get your money's worth: 1. Fill up your car or truck in the morning when the temperature isstill cool. Remember that all service stations have their storage tanksburied below ground; and the colder the ground, the denser the gasoline. When it gets warmer gasoline expands, so if you're filling up in theafternoon or in the evening, what should be a gallon is not exactly agallon. In the petroleum business, the specific gravity and temperatureof the fuel (gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, ethanol and other petroleumproducts) are significant. Every truckload that we load istemperature-compensated so that the indicated gallon gage is actuallythe amount pumped. A one-degree rise in temperature is a big deal forbusinesses, but service stations don't have temperature compensation attheir pumps. 2. If a tanker truck is filling the station's tank at the time you wantto buy gas, do not fill up; most likely dirt and sludge in the tank isbeing stirred up when gas is being delivered, and you might betransferring that dirt from the bottom of their tank into your car'stank. 3. Fill up when your gas tank is half-full (or half-empty), because themore gas you have in your tank the less air there is and gasolineevaporates rapidly, especially when it's warm. (Gasoline storage tankshave an internal floating 'roof' membrane to act as a barrier betweenthe gas and the atmosphere, thereby minimizing evaporation.) 4. If you look at the trigger you'll see that it has three deliverysettings: slow, medium and high. When you're filling up do not squeezethe trigger of the nozzle to the high setting. You should be pumping atthe slow setting, thereby minimizing vapors created while you arepumping. Hoses at the pump are corrugated; the corrugations act as areturn path for vapor recovery from gas that already has been metered. If you are pumping at the high setting, the agitated gasoline containsmore vapor, which is being sucked back into the underground tank, soyou're getting less gas for your money. Hope this will help ease your'pain at the pump'

Why !

I am a single parent of one beautiful daughter and the last thing on my mind would be to cause harm to her ,especially at an early age of 6 mos. The news release on Monday stated that an African American young lady has been arrested for the death of her only daughter.

Madison woman is in police custody and tentatively charged in the death of her 6-month-old daughter. The baby died on Saturday after she was removed from life support. Police subsequently arrested her mother, Patrice Smith, on suspicion of reckless homicide. Family members said that the girl was placed on life support after a choking incident on Oct. 2, WISC-TV reported. Unidentified sources told WISC-TV that the baby had a sock stuffed in her mouth and stopped breathing. Detectives are keeping very tight lipped about this investigation. Smith is in the Dane County Jail and is awaiting formal charges, authorities said. The child's paternal grandmother, Tracy Miller, said that the family is very distraught and they want justice to be served in this case. Smith is expected to be formally charged in court later this week, WISC-TV reported.

MADISON, Wis. -- The number of school districts offering 4-year-old kindergarten has grown by 70 percent in seven years. The state Department of Public Instruction said the number of students enrolled has nearly doubled from about 14,400 in the 2001 school year to 27,700 this year. The number of districts offering it grew from 166 in 2001 to 283 this year. The recently passed state budget includes $3 million in grants to help start new programs. Expanding 4-year-old kindergarten has been a priority of Gov. Jim Doyle's administration. [ Courtesy of Channel3000] I just wanna say that I think that this is a great start to helping low-income poverty families .I think that it would be a great idea to also do some building of schools especially one on the Allied Dr.area.

DEBRA LAFAVE
Teacher Who Had Sex With Boy Arrested Again
Former Teacher Charged With Probation Violation
POSTED: 10:43 am CST December 5, 2007

TAMPA, Fla. -- A former teacher serving house arrest in Florida for having sex with a 14-year-old boy was arrested and charged with violating her probation. A state Corrections Department report said Debra Lafave discussed her personal life and other subjects with a teenage waitress at a restaurant where they both worked. One of the terms of her probation is that she not have unsupervised contact with minors without permission. The 26-year-old woman is serving three years of house arrest and seven years of probation after pleading guilty in 2005 to having sex with the boy. She was arrested Tuesday and released from jail on a promise to appear in court.
Lafave's attorney called it an "insignificant violation." He said his client's relationship with the 17-year-old co-worker "was a workplace friendship." Lafave could face up to 15 years in prison for violating probation. [Courtesy of Channel 3000 News]
